How to Receive an SMS Verification Code Online

Many apps ask for a phone number before you can finish signing up. If you'd rather not hand out your personal number, or you need a number from another country, a temporary number lets you receive that one code and move on.

1. Pick the app and the country

Start with the app that will send the code, then choose a country. Countries with good stock are usually the most reliable. Prices differ by app and country, so compare before you buy.

2. Buy the number

Once you have balance on your account, buying a number takes one click. The number is assigned to you alone for the length of the order, usually 10 to 20 minutes.

3. Enter the number in the app

Copy the number exactly as shown, including the country code, and paste it into the app's phone field. Then ask the app to send the code.

4. Read the code

The SMS appears in your dashboard as soon as it arrives. Copy it back into the app to finish verification.

If the code doesn't arrive

Wait until the timer ends. If no message came, the full price goes back to your balance automatically. You can also cancel a waiting order yourself. Trying a different country for the same app often helps, because delivery varies by network.

Good to know

Temporary numbers are single-use. Don't use one on an account you'll need to recover later by SMS, because the number returns to the pool once your order ends.
